
The 10th Circumpolar Agriculture Conference was successfully held 13-15 March, 2019 in Rovaniemi, Finland. Totally 170 international delegates including researchers, practitioners, managers, educators and students from 12 different countries and all over the Arctic participated in the event. The conference received many thanks for its arrangements and inspiring atmosphere.
The conference discussed topical challenges and opportunities of local agriculture, food production and rural development in the northern areas. Arctic foods, their local profitability and business opportunities were also addressed, similarly as implications of climate change and land use, food security and other questions. The two-day conference included nine oral sessions, two poster sessions and a finalizing panel discussion.
Third conference day was dedicated to an excursion to North East Finland for familiarization with local agriculture, reindeer herding and utilization of natural products.
The local organiser of the conference was the Arctic Centre at the University of Lapland in cooperation with Natural Resources Institute Finland and several local institutions in Lapland. The conference was one of the events organised during the Finnish Chairmanship of the Arctic Council.
